EZproxy, Proxy Servers and SSL
Wiley is updating log-in pages for Wiley Online Library on March 25th 2017 to conform to secure sockets layer protocol. These changes were made to ensure better protection for user data, and to ensure the secure standards expected of Wiley globally.
As a result of this change, remote library users will have issues accessing Wiley Online Library. In order to ensure uninterrupted access for your users, please follow these steps below as they pertain to your library:
- If your library is already setup to support HTTPS, all you need to do is to add the following subdomain to your proxy configuration (or config.txt) file for the Wiley Online Library stanza:
HJ https://secure.onlinelibrary.wiley.com - If your library uses EZproxy and is NOT already setup to support HTTPS:
- Please setup the configuration by following the directions provided by OCLC on their site at: https://www.oclc.org/support/services/ezproxy/documentation/cfg/ssl.en.html
- Then add HJ https://secure.onlinelibrary.wiley.com to your EZproxy configuration (or config.txt) file for the Wiley Online Library stanza.
- Please setup the configuration by following the directions provided by OCLC on their site at: https://www.oclc.org/support/services/ezproxy/documentation/cfg/ssl.en.html
- If your library uses a different proxy server vendor, please contact your vendor or administrator to ensure that https://secure.onlinelibrary.wiley.com is added to your white list, and that you are set up to support secure HTTPS web sites.
If you have any questions or require further support, please contact your proxy server vendor for more information.

Support for Athens access
Users can log into Athens via Wiley Online Library to get access to their institution’s licensed content.
IP access
IP Based authentication – most users will be able to seamlessly access their institution’s licensed content seamlessly via their IP address. For those customers who cannot use IPs we provide further options outlined below.
Username & password access
For those institutions that do not have the technical capabilities to support IP based or TPS we allow the creation of an institutional login which all users can use to access licensed content.
Trusted Proxy Server access
Trusted proxy server is a remote authentication method provided to customers and partners of Wiley Online Library who prefer to manage the access control rights of their users on their own websites.
To use TPS customers and partners will need to have a secure web site (password protected) running on a web server with a fixed IP address and the capability to run scripts in the following supported languages – ASP, ASP.NET, JSP, PHP, Perl and Coldfusion.
To access Wiley Online Library users log in on the customer/partner’s site and click on a link to Wiley Online Library. The link will send the needed authentication details and users will then get access to all licensed content.
COUNTER3 compliant Usage Reports
Usage reports for institutional customers are compliant with the latest Release 4 of the COUNTER Code of Practice with its SUSHI protocol. Usage data for Journals, Books and Reference Works is accessible through the Customer Administration area of the site.
