Frequently Asked Questions

Issues we are working on

Since the launch of Wiley Online Library a number of issues have been reported through our Customer Services Team (www.wileycustomerhelp.com). Many thanks for taking the time to report these. We are working on resolving all issues as quickly as we can. Below is a summary of some of these and progress to date:

  • Federated Access / Shibboleth - logging in sends users to the Wiley Online Library login page (Updated
    • This issue has not been resolved, however, we announced this week that the syntax to generate content-specific (WAYFless) URLs is now available, and instructions for librarians have been posted on our site. Download PDF document with WAYFless Instructions for Athens and Shibboleth Authentication. We apologise for any inconvenience this issue may cause.
  • EZ Proxy links
    • Displays a text-only version of the website (Updated: Actions for you to take) - Wiley has worked with customers who reported this issue and we have identified a potential "MaxVirtualHosts" problem when accessing Wiley Online Library through EZ Proxy. This may be the cause of the problem if you are seeing a text-only version of the website.  We are looking into a solution to prevent this error from occurring. In the meantime, if you do experience a display issue when accessing Wiley Online Library via EZ Prozy, you can take the following actions: log into EZ Proxy admin, click on “View server status,” click the “Hosts” tab, scroll down to the bottom and select one of the options for freeing up virtual hosts. If this does not resolve the issue, please visit our Customer Services site at www.wileycustomerhelp.com and report the issue. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.

We have reprocessed usage data for the period August 1 to August 7 2010 from Wiley InterScience and combined this with the usage for the period August 8 to August 31 2010 from Wiley Online Library. We are delivering this as a single monthly report in Wiley Online Library.

We are providing usage reports required by Release 3 of the COUNTER Code of Practice for Journals and Databases (www.projectcounter.org) for August data as of October 2nd 2010, as well as some others:

Q. Is SUSHI supported?
A. Yes, we will provide the URL to access the SUSHI export when we publish the full 2010 year-to-date usage report. Customers will be able to point their SUSHI client at this URL to access the single continuous report for 2010 once available.

Q. Will more usage reports be added to Wiley Online Library?
A. Yes, we will work to add other reports over the next several months.

Q. What effect will reprocessing the data from Wiley InterScience have on the year-to-date reports?
A. Customers who downloaded their usage data from Wiley InterScience in the first half of 2010 may notice that their figures have changed when they download usage data for the same period from Wiley Online Library. This is because of the data migration that took place in the platform transition. Data elements such as content and customer identifiers have been updated on Wiley Online Library and this will have inevitably affected how usage is reported.

Q. How else will our usage be affected by the site transition?
A. We expect there will have been a temporary downturn in usage as the site has changed. This is a result of the necessary downtime, search engine re-indexing of the content, and users who will at first be unfamiliar with the new site. We have done what we can to minimize these effects and expect the usage to fully recover.

Q. Are usage reports from Wiley InterScience accessible from Wiley Online Library?
A. Yes, usage reports from Wiley InterScience are accessible from the customer administration area of Wiley Online Library.

A. We will make available the usage data for the previous month within the following month. This will continue to be the case every month.
